Manifesto / 001

We are against the disposable decade.

The technology industry learned that the fastest route to growth is a shorter lifespan. Sealed batteries, glued panels, firmware that quietly slows a machine into retirement. We started Aevum Labs because we were tired of replacing hardware that was never broken.

Our answer is deliberately narrow. Instead of listing thousands of items, we test hundreds and publish the few that survive. A product joins the catalogue only after it passes a thermal soak, a drop protocol, a battery cycling run and a repairability teardown — and only if we can still source its parts in half a decade.

We publish every measurement, including the disappointing ones. If a laptop throttles after forty minutes of rendering, that number appears on the product page. Trust is a measurement problem, not a marketing one.

Principles / 006

Operating standards

These six rules decide what we sell, what we refuse and how we treat you afterwards. They are written on the wall of the lab.

  • P/01

    Longevity over novelty

A product enters the catalogue only if we can service it in five years. Sealed, unrepairable designs are declined regardless of how well they sell.

  • P/02

    Measured, not marketed

Every specification we publish comes from our own bench: thermal runs, battery cycles, colour measurements and acoustic sweeps.

  • P/03

    Quiet by default

Hardware should disappear into the work. We reject devices that demand attention through noise, notification pressure or unnecessary light.

  • P/04

    Material honesty

Aluminium looks like aluminium, copper ages into its own patina. We do not paint plastic to imitate metal.

  • P/05

    Data stays home

Connected devices in our catalogue must function fully without a cloud account, and must store personal data locally.

  • P/06

    One promise

Thirty days to change your mind, three years of coverage, and a technician who answers with a name rather than a ticket macro.

Field notes / Technology in daily life

The best device is the one you stop thinking about

A morning starts with a watch that already knows you slept badly and quietly moves your training session. A laptop opens without a fan spinning up in a shared room. A phone takes a photograph of your child in low light and returns their actual skin tone.

None of these moments are impressive on a specification sheet. They are the difference between hardware that serves a life and hardware that interrupts one. That is the standard we test against: not peak numbers, but the hundredth hour.

We ask every customer a single question before recommending anything — what does your day actually look like? The answer decides the machine.

Innovation / 002

The Aevum cooling spine

Four years of prototyping produced a copper spine that carries heat along the length of a chassis instead of stacking it under the keyboard. It let us build a notebook that sustains full processor clocks for two hours without a fan above a whisper.

We licensed the design openly. Three other manufacturers now use it, which is a better outcome than keeping it to ourselves.

What owning it feels like

I replaced a whole studio of mismatched gear with four Aevum products. Three years later every one of them still works exactly as measured on the day it arrived.

Dana Whitfield

Colourist, Meridian Post

Their engineers sent me the actual thermal chart of the machine I was considering. No other retailer has ever done that.

Kwame Adeyemi

Simulation engineer

The support line is a person. She walked me through a battery replacement rather than selling me a new laptop.

What comes with the hardware

S/01

Lab intake

Tell us what you do for eight hours a day and we specify the machine around it.

S/02

Calibration

Displays arrive profiled to your room, with the measurement report in the box.

S/03

Component servicing

Batteries, hinges, switches and fans replaced in our workshop, not outsourced.

S/04

Trade forward

Return any device we sold you for a credit based on measured remaining life.

Sustainability / 004

The greenest device is the one you already own

We do not claim carbon neutrality through offsets. Instead we measure the only figure that matters to us: how many years a product stays in daily service. Our current fleet average is eleven years, against an industry norm of four.

Bench results, once a month

One email with the measurements from everything we tested, including the products that failed. No promotions.

Final statement

Buy it once. Keep it a decade.

Twenty-five tested gear items survived our bench this year. Every one of them is listed with the measurements that got it there.
